Mama Sing My Song y Amanda Seibert ~ Book Review

September 27, 2022

About the Book

Book: Mama Sing My Song
Author: Amanda Seibert
Genre: Christian Children's Fiction

Mama, Sing My Song is a beautiful children's book about God's big love, giving families affirming words to shower on their kids, revealing the bright joy, deep care, and unending love they have in their hearts. Amanda Seibert, founder of Mama Sing My Song, the popular company that creates personalized songs for parents to gift to their children, knows that the words we speak over our little ones can shape them for years to come.

When we look at our children, we see those one-in-a-million grins, their crinkled noses, and sweet eyes looking back at us, which soften our hearts. God designed those babies uniquely, and Mama, Sing My Song is a celebration of all that is lovely and true about your child. Let your little ones know they are safe, loved, and cherished in your family.

This affirming picture book for 4- to 8-year-olds celebrates the love between parent and child; encourages kids to embrace God's love for them; provides kids the security and love they're seeking; and highlights all that is good in our little ones. With snuggly illustrations of animal families, Mama, Sing My Song features unique presentation pages to write your little one's name, plus space to journal special messages and a prayer for your child; includes a free downloadable song; is a great gift for baby showers, Mother's Day, Christmas, and birthdays; and has a beautifully designed cover, perfect for displaying in a nursery or in a gift basket.

Hold your little ones a little closer as you share this timeless, heartfelt love note with them.

My Thoughts

This book is so beautiful! Not only is it beautifully illustrated but it is equally beautifully written. My kids love when I get kids books to review because they get to be part of the review process and provide their input. My little ones (7 and 8) definitely loved this book. My older ones enjoyed it but you know older kids they don't want to own up with the lovey gushy stuff. I loved the message that God has designed them to be unique and be completely loved and cherished!

This book will definitely make a great gift to a new mom, baby shower or a book to dedicate to each of your little ones for their memory boxes. I definitely recommend you grab this one.

My Rating: 5 Stars/LOVED it!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Finding of Miss Fairfield by Grace Hitchcock ~ Book Review

September 24, 2022

About the Book

Book: The Finding of Miss Fairfield
Author: Grace Hitchcock
Genre: Christian Historical Fiction
Series: Aprons and Veils
Release Date: August 29, 2022
Publisher: Valmont House

When an engagement of convenience becomes anything but convenient . . .

Forced into a betrothal with a widower twice her age, Charleston socialite, Sophia Fairfield is desperate for an escape. But, while her fiancé is away on business, he assigns his handsome stepson, Carver, the task of looking after his bride-to-be. Much to her dismay, Sophia finds herself falling in love with the wrong gentleman—a man society would never allow her to marry, given Sophia was supposed to be his new stepmother. The only way to save Carver from scandal and financial ruin is to run away, leaving him and all else behind to become a Harvey Girl waitress at the Castañeda Hotel in New Mexico.

Carver Ashton has had his life planned out for him since birth, but when he encounters Sophia Fairfield, he glimpses a new life—apart from his overbearing stepfather's business. But, when the woman he loves disappears before he can express his devotion, Carver abandons all to find her. However, his stepfather has other intentions for Sophia and will stop at nothing until she is his bride . . . even if it is against her will

My Thoughts

The Finding of Miss Fairfield is the newest by Grace Hitchcock and part of her newest series Aprons and Veils. I really enjoyed this story and I think it was a great start to the series. I love stories that have the Harvey Girl theme to them. Not sure why but I do!

In this story we meet Sophia who has always followed the rules that have been almost forced upon her by her parents. When her father decides to make a business deal regarding her and marriage to a much older man she decides that she's had enough. Sadly she doesn't think much of herself in looks or capabilities but I really enjoyed her growth throughout the story. Her relationship with Carver was quite lovely! Carver was a great leading man and had his own swoony moments.

This story definitely has a little bit of everything. I found that it had a good amount of suspense and there was a part I didn't expect to happen. I am not going to tell you so it will be surprising for you as well. This was a good story. It was entertaining and there was definitely a faith thread woven into the story.

Overall I thought the story was good and can't wait for the next installment.

My Rating: 4 Stars/ Really Liked it!

I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Governess by Kristie Self ~ Book Review

About the Book

Book: The Governess
Author: Kristie Self
Genre: Christian Historical Fiction
Series: Ladies of Roderick Glen
Release Date: September 20, 2022

She’s spent years running from the pain of her past. Is facing it the only way to save her future?

Fiona Campbell has done everything possible to mold herself into the perfect English governess. Determined to forget the tragedy she endured as a young girl in Ireland, she devoted all her energy into building a new life for herself. And she succeeded brilliantly--until the day she fell in love with Lord George Roderick, Baron of Cheswick, thereby risking not only her heart and reputation, but her livelihood, as well.

Fiona’s world is shattered when she learns that George has abandoned her to enter an engagement with the Honorable Sienna Clarke, a woman that receives his family’s full seal of approval. Despite George’s insistence that his love for her has not wavered and he will eventually make a way for them to be together, Fiona harbors doubts that his words will ever come to pass. Desperate to escape the situation, she applies for a new position elsewhere, only to be ignored at every turn.

George has always been the son his father could count on. He’s done everything his family has expected of him, but the idea of marrying anyone other than Fiona is unthinkable. Determined to set things right, he takes matters into his own hands, little dreaming that his actions will have the opposite effect of what he intended.

When a chance encounter with a childhood acquaintance provides Fiona with an opportunity to return to Ireland, she struggles with the decision. Should she remain in Roderick Glen and hope for love to prevail, or return to her native country and face the painful memories that have haunted her for years?

This third book in The Ladies of Roderick Glen series gives us another glimpse into the lives of the villagers as they reconcile faith with love, heartache, and the wistful longing for home.

My Thoughts

Oh, it was lovely to return back to Roderick Glen and visit with these characters once more but especially to finally know Fiona's story. Fiona has been such a staple in Roderick Glen as Victoria's governess. We actually meet her in Book one and get to know her a lot more in Book 2 but now is her time and our time to finally get to know what happens to her and what her background is. I can't tell you too much about it because it will truly ruin the story for you.

This book is not only about Fiona and George although their storyline is the main one we also get to be submersed in Roderick Glen and discover more about its characters. We get to know more about past characters and the younger generation of this series and it even left us open to continue in the next book.  There is a lot going on in this story but the author does an amazing job at their storylines that you are truly placed in the middle of this setting and its like you are part of the cast looking in. I absolutely love her style of writing. She truly makes you feel all the feelings these characters are going through. It's such an easy read you just need more of it!

There is a strong faith thread throughout the story. You definitely can see the characters grow stronger in their faith and rely fully on God in the midst of hardships and heartaches.

I can't say enough good about this book because I absolutely loved it but I also don't want to give anything away.  I can tell you that this is a book series that you MUST read from the very beginning. It is the only way to truly understand the characters and know what is happening in the different storylines. I promise you will not regret it. I now must patiently wait for the next addition to the series.

My Rating: 5 Stars/Loved it!

I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Passion and Propriety by Elina I. Troshin-Morozov ~ Book Review

September 19, 2022

About the Book

Book: Passion and Propriety
Author: Elina I. Troshin-Morozov
Genre: Christian Historical Romance
Release Date: November 28, 2020

Thrown into an entirely unfamiliar world of class and race, caught in the tyrannical grip of suffocating English propriety, and set apart by wholly nonconformist passions of heart, the now orphaned Emilie Forthyn must fend for herself in the midst of cruel intentions, cold relations, and calculated enmity. She must stand alone upon heart-deep convictions about what it means to be human amidst slave-trading noblemen and repressive noblewomen. When an unexpected friend makes an entrance, he seems like the perfect ally with whom to fight these battles; resurrecting the pleasantest memories of days’ past and awakening the sweetest longings of heart, however, he quickly becomes much more. When another determines to win her hand, Emilie must choose the life she wants. Will love truly lead her? Will a mysterious secret destroy her? Will unexpected betrayal demolish all hope for a happy ending? And will her new life amongst the nobles of England—and amongst its servants and slaves—lead to her happily ever after? New friends in unexpected places, victories grander than time itself, and love refined by fire characterize the story of Emilie Forthyn, a heroine in her own right. Read on to discover the power of a heart of Passion and Propriety.

My Thoughts

Oh I absolutely loved this story by debut author Elina I. Troshin-Morozov. I am so glad she contacted me to review this book. This author has done such a great job with this book. I absolutely love everything about it.

In this story we meet Emilie she has sadly been orphaned and is only left with brothers. Being that she is the only female she must leave her home and head to London to become known in society. Unfortunately she goes to live with family who don't believe in the same things and do not hold the same values as she has been taught.  Thank goodness for Lady June, without her poor Emilie would have been lost. I absolutely loved Lady June and I am so thankful that she was there to encourage Emilie. She could see that Emilie had the potential to make a real difference in the world.

This book is in the 1800's, the time where slavery was sadly very prevalent a norm for some. But there were some that saw it in a different light. They believed that slavery should not be so prevalent but rather everyone should be treated equally. Emilie shared these beliefs and to her aunt that was abysmal. Her aunt wanted her to be a lady of society and marry according to her social standard. There is definitely a somewhat love triangle but we all knew who the better candidate was throughout the story despite there being some shall we say difficulties along the way. Phineas is definitely swoon-worthy!! Goodness, I was giddy at times with him and his love for Emilie and then there was also heartache.

There was so much emotion going into the story and the characters were so relatable and real. You felt the passion that Emilie had for her beliefs and you wanted to stand and cheer her on as you are reading. I definitely got teary and sighed at just the right times. I cannot wait for the next book in this series and perhaps see some of these characters once again. This is one author to definitely be on the lookout for!

My Rating: 5 Stars/Absolutely LOVED it!

I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

MY THOUGHTS

I really enjoy reading small town stories and this one was a pretty good one. I also enjoy the second chance romance trope so I definitely enjoyed this aspect of the story. Being that this is the first book in the series we are introduced to quite a few characters and there was a good amount of background story telling that I am hoping will continue in the rest of the series. The story however, revolves around the lives of Ryan, Mellie and young Alfie.

The premise of the story I thought was a strong one but there were times that it lost my interest. I think the romance part between the two characters was extremely slow and at times their issues were a bit repetitive. That being said both characters were well written. Ryan definitely made a gallant leading man and Mellie is the sweet girl next door who has never forgotten him and also has Alfie which is a reminder of the past and what could be.

The resolution of the story was good and definitely led to not only a happy ending but open for you to eagerly await the next book in the series!

This was my first book by this author. It is definitely a clean sweet romance. If you are looking for an sweet romance for a little escape then this is a great book to pick up!

My Rating: 3 Stars/Liked it

Cindersister by Hannah Joy Smith ~ Book Review

September 11, 2022

About the Book

Book: Cindersister
Author: Hannah Joy Smith
Genre: Christian Fairy Tale
Release Date: June 23, 2022

The worst possible thing has happened. Priscilla’s sister has become the new duchess. Now, their mother holds Cenerentola’s success as the measuring stick that Priscilla can never live up to. All Priscilla wants is to escape the criticism that comes from living in Cenerentola’s shadow. Taking matters into her own hands, Priscilla hastily agrees to a marriage of convenience to Pietro, the baker.

Pietro treats her differently than she has been taught to expect as the family imbecile. While it is easier to hide her illiteracy and innumeracy in this lower class, adjusting to life as a tradesman’s wife is more difficult than Priscilla bargained for. She is willing to make the best of her situation, but the new duchess is intent on meddling with her life.

What will it take for Priscilla to escape from her sister’s influence? How long can she hide from the past that haunts her? Does she even need to?

 My Thoughts

This story gave me Ever After vibes all the way, so much so that I had to rewatch it! Have you ever seen that version of Cinderella? You definitely should if you haven't! Now this did have a twist! It is not a fairy tale retelling but rather instead of Cinderella the author has written about one of the step sisters. In this story we follow Priscilla one of the "evil" stepsisters which wasn't so evil. I truly felt bad for her. She truly grew up in what I would consider and emotional abusive home. Her mother, the wicked step-mother, was truly wicked. She not only mistreated Cinderella but more so Priscilla. She clouded her mind towards her step-sister and made her feel inferior and worthless about herself.

Priscilla definitely questioned herself throughout the story and always wondered if she too could have a happy ending. I LOVED Pietro!! (Definitely reminded you of another certain adorable baker... Hunger Games anyone?) Anyways, Pietro was the perfect addition to Priscilla's life. Despite her marriage to him being one of convenience, through him she learned what it was like to be truly loved and how to love. How to forgive and be forgiven and ultimately how to truly have faith and walk a Godly life.

I am not going to give you all the details of this story but I will say Hannah Joy Smith did a great job at her debut novel. The one little thing I would change and truly is nothing major and totally a technical thing in the writing and nothing to do with the actual story itself... but the parts where Priscilla is remembering the past kind of ran into each other in the story. I know it was in italics but I wish there would've been some sort of physical break in the wording so we could truly tell that she was going back in time in her mind. But other than that the story was quite lovely and I definitely recommend you read it as well!

My Rating: 4 Stars/Really Liked it!

I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

About the Book

Book: Life's Journey Our Greatest Test
Author: Marshalee Patterson

When Brady lost his brother, John, he felt his entire world crumble. All their plans went up in smoke, and soon his life took a turn for the worst; one he had not seen coming.

When his uncontrollable rage landed him in the Lexington Prison, he lost all will to live. However, his grandmother Ruth, being the devoted Christian woman that she was, never gave up on him and kept praying for him.

Walking around town shortly after his release from Lexington, Brady was pleasantly surprised when he stumbled upon Sara in a partially burnt abandoned building. Thinking that being a good Samaritan to her, could help him make right with God for all the wrong he had done in his life, he later discovered Sara was more of a blessing to his tortured life than he was to her. Will this unlikely union bring them peace and seeing God’s promises fulfilled in their lives?

My Thoughts

This was my first book by this author and I must say I'm glad she contacted me to review her book. I love meeting new authors and even more so when they have great books to be read. This author does a great job at drawing you into the story. Her characters are relatable and you can see yourself in them. You definitely feel what they are feeling and are completely immersed in their lives.

Brady and Sarah's story although tough showed us that God's grace transforms lives. It was great to see how they grow and transform throughout the story. The book definitely touches on some heavy subjects but I think the author does a great job at tackling each one of them and helps you understand the lessons being taught through her story.

Overall I thought the story was good. If you enjoy stories that are filled with a faith element and transforming lives sprinkled with some romance then I suggest grabbing this book!

My Rating: 3.5 / Liked it

I received a digital copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

About the Author

I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and always had a love for reading. It was while attending the Merl Grove High School that I discovered that I loved writing stories. Some of my favourite novels were written by Charles Dickens and Victor Hugo, as I found that I was drawn to stories that promoted good morals and values, which are great influences in building good character and qualities in us.

However, after leaving high school, I went on to pursue a career in banking as a Bank Teller and didn’t follow up on my writing. It wasn’t until I went to Italy in 2003; I started to relive the experiences and wanted to write about it. Being a Christian, I give credit to the Holy-Spirit who had greatly guided me in creating real stories that all can relate to.

I write Christian romance/adventure and family books, where my characters are created out of my own experiences, with a few exceptions and this has helped me write from the heart and with a lot of love.

I hope that through my writing I can reach people with the message of hope in Christ and help restore their faith in Him. This I feel is a blessed opportunity to be chosen to be a vessel to reach people with stories of love and upliftment from a spiritual point; showing that love isn't just about sex and hopefully help many to discover ways to watch over their marriages and families.

I am a lover of nature and the tranquility of it and find nature refreshing and peaceful. I enjoy different cultures especially the Spanish which I feels makes us learn to appreciate ours a little more in areas where we have been ungrateful or unappreciative. I also enjoy salsa music very much and dance it well too. I am a proud Jamaican.

Deception by Patricia Bradley ~ Book Review

September 8, 2022

About the Book

Book: Deception
Author: Patricia Bradley
Genre: Christian Mystery Suspense
Series: Natchez Trace Park Rangers, Book 4
Publisher: Revell
Release Date: August 2, 2022

When ISB Ranger Madison Thorn arrives in Natchez to investigate a white-collar scheme, she has no idea she will be thrown back into the violent crimes division--or that it will get so personal. She'll have to work with her childhood-enemy-turned-handsome-charmer to unravel the clues before it's too late.

My Thoughts

Well if you enjoy suspense then this is definitely the book for you! This is my first book by this author and boy it won't be the last. This book definitely has you in pins and needles from the very beginning and does not let you lose interest at all. It definitely is a page turner and you will not want to stop reading at all. It is fast paced and felt like a quick read.

The characters were very like-able. Clay and Madison were definitely easy to connect with and their relationship seemed very realistic. The author did a great job at giving you a true portrayal of someone overcoming addiction. She didn't make it seem like it was rainbows and ponies but rather a true thing that is difficult and takes time. It is a daily struggle. We as Christians struggle daily even when we have a close walk with the Lord.

I know this is part of a series and typical me started a series in the end of it all so I am sure that although I had no trouble following the story, I think it would have been even better if I would've started from the beginning so I could get to know some of the characters even better.

Overall I thought the story was great and really enjoyed it. I can't wait to explore more of this authors books.

My Rating: 4 Stars/Really enjoyed it

The Apostle's Sister by Angela Hunt ~ Book Review

About the Book

Book: The Apostle's Sister
Author: Angela Hunt
Genre: Biblical Fiction
Series: Jerusalem Road Book, 4
Publisher: Bethany House
Release Date: June 7, 2022

Aya, daughter of Zebulon of Tarsus, does not want a traditional life. Because she has always lived in the shadow of her brilliant brother, she wants to use her gifts and be something more than a wife and mother. When her traditional father insists she marry Avidan, a Torah student, she reluctantly agrees, but when Avidan leaves for Jerusalem, she seizes an opportunity to fulfill her deepest yearning, realizing she may never have another chance to do so.

After moving to Jerusalem, she expects to be bored in her role as wife to a Torah student, but finds herself fascinated by her husband's studies. And when her brother Sha'ul makes a life-altering decision, she finds herself faced with a troubling question: How can she remain true to all she's been taught since infancy and still love her blasphemous brother?

My Thoughts

This past year I have really gotten into the Biblical Fiction genre. Not knowing too much about the authors who write this beautiful genre I usually go by recommendations or they literally just drop into my mailbox for review! That is the case with this book. I have never read anything by this author bur really enjoyed her writing style.

The one thing with Biblical Fiction that I enjoy the most is that it incorporates Bible but makes you think of the "what if's and what could've been"" I mean the people in the Bible were real and of course we don't know every single detail of their lives but man it is so interesting to wonder what could have been. This one introduces to Aya which is Paul's sister. She struggles with being her own person and questions why God gives her gifts when she is not able to use them.

I really enjoyed the story, Aya did drive me a little nuts with what felt like whining. While I didn't connect with the characters I think the author did an excellent job at her research and filling her book with lots of amazing details that I never knew.

Overall I thought the book was well written. Despite this being a series I didn't feel like I was missing anything while reading this book.

My Rating: 3.5/It was good

I received a copy of this book from the publisher Bethany House. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Now that her two children have reached their thirties, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Turner and Hooch and Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City.

Afterward, the dog gave out pawtographs at the airport.

Angela admits to being fascinated by animals, medicine, psychology, unexplained phenomena, and “just about everything” except sports. Books, she says, have always shaped her life— in the fifth grade she learned how to flirt from reading Gone with the Wind.

Her books have won the coveted Christy Award, several Angel Awards from Excellence in Media, and the Gold and Silver Medallions from Foreword Magazine’s Book of the Year Award. In 2007, her novel The Note was featured as a Christmas movie on the Hallmark channel. Romantic Times Book Club presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

In 2006, Angela completed her Master of Biblical Studies in Theology degree and completed her second doctorate in 2015. When she’s not home reading or writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers’ conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.
