About the Author

Shannon Sue Dunlap writes stories with a dose of laughter and a spoonful of love. She is the author of multiple romances, including the Selah Award-winning novel Love Overboard. She enjoys wearing vintage hats, singing tunes from classic musicals, and purchasing knick-knacks featuring Mr. Darcy. Shannon is a die-hard fan of happy endings and believes God has designed one for each of us.

Excerpt

She took another drink of water to wet her suddenly parched throat. “I have an idea, but”—she set the glass on the table—“it’s unusual.”
“What else is new?” Evan deadpanned. “You haven’t done one normal thing since I met you, Deanna Day. And I’m talking about our first meeting, when we were both in diapers.”
“I’m glad you understand me so well.” She bent closer and lowered her voice. “So how about kissing me?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Kissing me.”
Her gaze cut to Mrs. Biddle, who was surveilling them from the cash register as she accepted the change. Deanna talked faster, knowing they had mere seconds before the nosy woman returned.
“Listen, Mrs. Biddle’s imagination could put Hans Christian Andersen to shame. We don’t have to go for broke. Just a quick smooch, and I bet she’d race out of here without even bothering to ask us any more questions, and that will buy us some time to visit Mrs. Hammington and explain the”—Deanna ran out of air and stopped for a breath—“the truth.”
She recognized the expression on Evan’s face. He’d given her the same exasperated look many times when they were kids and she’d suggested another wild adventure. It usually precluded him giving in and letting her have her way. Would history repeat itself?
“Fine,” he ground out.
“Really?”
Deanna’s jaw slacked. Her heart pounded as if it were announcing to the whole room how excited she was. After all this time, she’d finally get to kiss Evan Colter. Could reality ever live up to almost thirty years of daydreams?

Readers and Writers will gather at the fourth annual Read Write Rendezvous, organized and sponsored by JustRead Publicity Tours, LLC, on November 7, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT at the Holiday Inn Nashville Airport. Rendezvous celebrates Christian fiction and sweet reads, featuring corporate worship, speaker sessions, author panels, small-group discussions, games, giveaways, a pop-up bookshop, and book signings. This event aims to sweeten reading and storytelling experiences with fellowship and encouragement. Over forty featured authors are participating, including The Christy Award Hall of Fame and bestselling author Tamera Alexander who will deliver the keynote address. USA Today and top ten Publishers Weekly bestselling author Lisa Phillips will lead worship. We will announce several more authors in the coming weeks! We prayerfully honor the legacy of the Christian Fiction Readers Retreat through each Rendezvous event, and this year we are especially celebrating the very first CFRR which was held 10 years ago in Nashville. Rendezvous is open only to registered attendees. Want to extend your reader getaway? The Christy Award Gala and Art of Writing conference will be held at a nearby venue on November 6.
