From Chapter 2, Scene 1

Ivy had no time to listen to verbose speeches or admire handsome men. Turning, she collided with a protestor’s wooden sign. She stepped to the side but was closer to the curb than she realized. A sharp pain shot up her left leg as her ankle buckled, and she started to fall into the street. Her hands flew out to stop her face from smashing into the Belgian block that rushed to greet her. An arm grabbed her around the waist and pulled her back onto the sidewalk just as a beer wagon barreled by.

When her knight in shining armor gently set her down, Ivy gasped at the searing pain in her ankle. Slowly, she turned and lifted her chin to find the face of her rescuer. He was the man with the hazel eyes, and his arms held her upright, thank goodness. Otherwise, she would surely land in a heap at his feet.

“Are you all right?”

“Yes, thanks to you.” Ivy tried to gather her wits. That was a narrow escape, and had he not grabbed her, she would have met her Maker that day. But to prove she was indeed fine, she took a tentative step.

Dilemma solved, she joined her freshly clothed boys outside where they were playing cornhole in

the shade-covered St. Augustine grass alongside the patio area. Grayson’s mood seemed much

improved. And for that, she was thankful.

“When are we gonna eat?” Her ever-hungry eldest looked her way.

“Soon. Aunt Dee just texted that she’s on her way back.” She paused beside the wood-pellet grill.

“But there are some carrots and hummus on the counter, if you need a snack.”

“`Kay.” Grayson started toward the house.

“Wait for me.” Bryce tossed his beanbag aside and chased after his brother.

After making sure the hopper was full, Tessa ignited the grill.

“I thought I heard voices back here.”

She turned at Dirk’s comment while Nash trotted toward Molly, his tail wagging.

Dirk’s hair was damp and combed back. He’d also traded his work clothes for a heather blue T-

shirt and khaki shorts that revealed his prosthetic leg. Yet for as much as she didn’t want to, she

My Thoughts

Oh my word what a great and fun story this was! I could feel Rebekah radiate in her writing in this book. I have been awaiting Kate's story ever since reading about her in the the first book Julia Monroe Begins Again and I am so glad I got to know her in this book because her story was so good. This story has a such an easy feel to it. I giggled out loud multiple times at the way Kate talks and the crazy antics that somehow happen to her. The lighthearted moments definitely balanced the deeper issues of the storyline. 

I felt for Kate throughout the story. She has a lot of things in her life that she is dealing with. She is still grieving her sister and although is not a grief that has overtaken her she doesn't want the memory of her to be faint so she holds on to all the dreams they made with each other despite never truly being Kate's dreams for her life. She likes to take control of every little detail of her life which at times make her a bit unbearable to deal with but it was nice to see how she grows throughout the story. I am so glad that she has Julia to talk her through her toughest moments and guide her in the way God would want her go and always rely on Him. Micah does the same and I loved how adorable he is with her niece and with her and gives her the space she needs to deal and come to terms with certain things in her life. 

There were some swoony moments with Micah and Kate but the journey of this story I felt was Kate's and not the romance, which don't get me wrong, it was present and written to perfection but I really enjoyed the journey I embarked and finished with Kate. So kudos to Rebekah Millet for writing such a great story. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Oh if you are reading this book on an empty stomach don't... the yearning for beignets will be strong while reading this book!
