Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Wish I Had Read as a Child

April 28, 2020

Hello friends!! It's Tuesday and that means Top Ten Tuesday time a weekly meme hosted by the Artsy Girl. This week the topic is Books I Wish I had Read as a Child.
I honestly had quite alot! I grew up in Puerto Rico and although I went to private school it wasn't like it was here where every school had a library. We didn't at all. The books I had access to were books my parents bought for us and those were mainly Puerto Rican Folklore or your traditional fairy tales.

We moved to the states when I was entering 6th grade. When I first encountered the school library I was in awe. I was even more deliriously happy and shocked when I encountered the public library! All those books at your disposal. I think that't why I am HUGE advocate for public libraries. Anyways you could not keep me away from it, I was getting books like crazy (and yes, I could read English... I went to a good private school and both my parents were English speakers). However I wish I would of read more of the classics. I mean I read quite a few of them but it wasn't until I was in middle school/high school. So if I had to do it over again I would pick these... I am so excited because since we are homeschoolers these will definitely end up in my kids reading lists so I will get to read along with them!

How about you? Any books you wish you had read as a child? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Reading!

  3. I grew up in a little tiny town with a little tiny library. I remember the first time I visited Powell's Bookstore in Portland. SO many books. I couldn't believe it! It was like heaven on earth for me :)

I'm glad you've been able to catch up on your reading. I would have liked HOLES as a kid. My kids have all read and loved it, too.

    Happy TTT!

    1. Indeed! I am always shocked when I encounter someone that doesn't have a library card! Its like what? Use the resource that is readily available to you! But alas they don't know what they are missing! That's been one of the toughest things about this shelter in place, my kiddos and miss our outings to the library!

Love perusing your blog and your list :) Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Thanks for visiting my blog! :) Your list is great, by the way! I enjoyed reading Holes, A Little Princess, Pollyanna, and Call of the Wild when I was younger. Looking forward to borrowing way too many books from the library when life returns to normal again!

  5. Black Beauty was a favorite of mine as a kid! Same with Call of the Wild. I was big into animal books. :) I grew up with public libraries nearby, but my parents never took me to them, so it wasn't until I was a junior in high school that I went to our public library for the first time, and I was absolutely FLOORED! They're amazing things, aren't they?

    Here's my TTT post.

    1. The library is truly magical place! I love that quote by J.K. Rowling through...Hermione Granger from Harry Potter "When in Doubt Go to the Library!"

I haven't read Call of the Wild and my oldest wants to since the movie came out. They are huge animal lovers so I know they would enjoy that and Black Beauty!

Thanks for stopping by! I enjoyed your list!

  6. I've ever read any of these, but I never was a fan of classic literature. I need to go back and find some of these because I am sure I would love them.

Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
