Monday Musings ~ Kindle or Paperback?

July 20, 2020

Happy Monday Friends!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and had a good Monday! I think this is the question that every bookish person has for other people so I thought I would cover it here too! When e-readers first came out I was completely against them! But then I had babies and it was hard to hold a book while feeding or rocking a baby. I mean its hard to turn pages while doing that! LOL! So I buckled down and got a Kindle and all was well with the world. I can get my reading done and rock a baby to sleep!

Now don't get me wrong, while I love my Kindle, if given the choice I would choose a paperback anytime! I mean there is nothing like holding a book in your hand and turning the pages!! (I'm even one of those weird book nerds that enjoys the smell of books!) Its a glorious thing for me to browse through a bookstore (especially used bookstores) and find my next few reads.

However my Kindle has helped me branch out to read Indie authors that I would have never picked up. That's why when I bought my Kindle I knew Kindle Unlimited was for me :) I have all these authors at my fingertips! I definitely have enjoyed reading new authors. And the bonus of the Kindle is when we travel I no longer have to have a separate bag just for books or purchase books while we are gone (although sometimes that can't be helped! LOL)

So all that to say that I love both!

What about you? Which one do you prefer? Let me know in the comments!!

  1. I don't think we should have to choose between paper books and a kindle or a e-reader - there are other e-readers I thought to get but I decided on the kindle because more books are on the kindle format.

Some books with illustrations that I'm certain I would not want to read on a kindle. For some odd reasons, illustrations are really tiny on the screen. You can enlarge them but by enlarging the text size which is not great because then you have to change the size back.

But I wouldn't really trade my paperbacks (and hardcovers), for a kindle. Although having ebooks really do save you space.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. I agree as well on there are other e-readers out there. I think that the Kindle is the most popular because there are definitely more books in that format, at least that I have encountered.

The illustrations on there are harder to read, but I will say my kids have found a lot of books through unlimited and since our library has been closed it has been helpful to have things that they can read or I can read to them :)

Like you I would never trade my books for a device! But it does come in handy!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Same! I was totally against e-readers just on principle, BUT then NetGalley and Edelweiss came along and I wanted to be able to get e-galleys. I didn't want to have to read them on my computer, so I bought my first Kindle and ... I didn't hate it! Like you, I still prefer paper books, but I still end up reading a fair amount of e-books using the Kindle app on my iPad. I like having both options and there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Like Lissa said, I'm glad I don't have to choose! I get the best of both worlds :)
