 My Thoughts

I love suspense stories so I was super excited to read this new one from Lynette Eason. I have read a few of her other books and I have really enjoyed them. This one was very good but it fell short for me in certain areas. I will say that she did a great job at the suspense parts as this is full of twists and turns so much so that it was hard to keep track of them at times but it definitely kept you guessing on who the true suspect was.

Unlike other stories you meet where the main characters meet throughout the story this one starts out with the characters already knowing each other and some what dating. Penny is a strong woman who has been hurt in the past so she is definitely a no nonsense kind of woman. When in the midst of a problem she conquers it head on. She is definitely no damsel in distress. Holt also has some baggage that he carries around and goes the whole story worried about not being completely honest with Penny. They are thrown together right away in search of a serial killer.

Like I said the storyline and premise of the mystery was really good although the bad guy was super creepy and the crimes he committed were very disturbing (think Criminal Minds type of stuff) but I did fee like the characters lacked a bit of more depth. Holt was a bit too clingy and Penny was too independent. I feel like even though they ended up coming together their past baggage, especially Penny's wasn't truly discussed. I know this is only the first book and perhaps there will be more of them in the following one.

That being said I did enjoy the story. The one thing I really enjoyed was the themes of returning to God and trusting in Him fully. If you enjoy suspenseful, mystery type books I would definitely give this one a chance. I will definitely be interested to see where the story goes in the upcoming books.

My Rating: 3 Stars/Liked it
