But what she finds inside will forever link her to the scandal staining the house's walls and to a woman whose secrets promise a curse.

My Thoughts
Another amazing read by Jaime Jo Wright! It always amazes me how Jaime Jo writes such intriguing stories that are full of that creepy factor but also has a great faith thread that leaves you in thought long after you finish the book. This one was no exception.
I really enjoyed the dual timeline and I must say I was not expecting the storyline in the 1910 timeline to go the way it did! I absolutely was enthralled and could not figure out the culprit for the life of me. In present time Predicament Falls we encounter some unique circumstances with the characters and similarities but I have to say I knew who the culprit was sooner than expected and I wasn’t even disappointed. It still had me going and I wanted to know the “why” behind it all.
As always the faith thread is what gets me with Jamie's books. This one dealt with fear, anxiety and grief. But it was great to see how the characters developed and grew in knowing that if they gave everything to God, His mercy and grace would cover them and be there for them when they surrendered everything to Him.
Overall I enjoyed this book and I cannot wait for her next one! If you are looking for a great mystery that will give you the creeps and have you stay up all night to find out what happens then you did need to grab this book!

In 1910 Michigan, Perliett VanHilton is a self-proclaimed rural healer, leaving the local doctor, George Wasziak, convinced she practices quackery. It doesn't help that her mother, Maribeth VanHilton, is a Spiritualist who regularly offers her services to help others speak to their dearly departed. But when Perliett is targeted by a superstitious killer, she relies on both George and an intriguing newcomer for help.
In the present day, life has not developed the way Molly Wasziak dreamed. Facing depression after multiple miscarriages, Molly is adapting to her husband's purchase of a new farm. A search for a family tree pulls Molly deep into a vintage web of deceptions, made more mysterious by the disturbing shadows and sounds in the old farmhouse.
Perliett fights for her life, and Molly seeks renewed purpose for hers as she uncovers the records of the dead. Will their voices be heard, or will time silence their truths forever?

My Thoughts
Jaime Jo has done it again!! What an excellent book! I love her books and await them with all the patience I can muster. So far her books have not disappointed me, just when I think her last book is the best by far she goes and writes another one that is even better than the last! If you have never read a Jaime Jo book let's dig into this one and see if I can tell you about the story without any spoilers.
From the very first page you are captivated and thrown into a mystery that takes you into a very wild and creepy ride. This is a dual time story which deals with two families which happened to be intertwined but we don't truly find how until you delve into the story. Perliett is from the past, 1910 to be exact, and Molly Wasziak is from the present timeline. These ladies in their respective timelines try to find out who the "Cornfield Ripper" is/was.
The story is full of suspense and action. There are twists I truly did not expect and I did not figure out who the "villain" was in neither timeline. It was definitely not expected. The creepy factor is high. I wish I could tell you but truly I would ruin it if I do. Let's just say that cornfields and old farmhouses are a no for me.
There is so much more to this story than that though. Jaime Jo truly tackles some topics that while reading may make you slightly uncomfortable and I think they should. She touches on the subject of spiritualism and talking to the dead. I think this is not only a topic that was so prevalent in the 1900's but also it is something that we see a lot more in our world today. As Christians it should make us uncomfortable that evil is taking over so much and we should fight back. Jaime Jo does an excellent job at shedding faith and light to this subject and I think she makes it clear where God stands in all of it.
Miscarriage is also a big topic in the plot of the story and I think she did a great job at depicting the realities a relationship goes through while someone is going through such loss. But if this is trigger point for you I wanted you to be aware.
I am not sure how an author's mind thinks or how characters and storylines comes to them but I am thankful that they do. Jaime Jo is an amazing writer. She definitely helps me lose sleep as I devour one of her stories so lots of coffee is consumed the following day (no worries there lol). In all seriousness I think she is very talented and I really appreciate that her writing, though truly creepy never fails to have a strong faith thread and she doesn't back away from tackling hard topics. I for one can't wait for her next book!
My Rating: 5 Stars/ LOVED it!!

Wren Blythe has long enjoyed being among the Northwoods, helping her father with programming at a youth camp. But when a little girl in the area goes missing, an all-out search ensues, reviving the decades-old campfire story of Ava Coons, the murderess, who still roams the woods. Joining the search, Wren stumbles upon the Coons cabin ruins and a rotting porcelain doll. But even more terrifying is seeing her name etched on the doll's foot like a sinister omen.
In 1930, Ava Coons has spent the last ten years carrying the mantle of mystery since she emerged from the forest as an eight-year-old girl, spattered with blood, dragging a logger's axe. She has accepted she'll never remember what happened to her family. When a member of the town of Tempter's Creek is murdered, rumors spread that Ava's secret is more malicious than previously imagined.
Both women discover that to save the innocent, they must face an insidious evil.

My Thoughts
Wow, wow, wow!! I love Jaime Jo Wright books and I have read quite a few of them but I think this was the best one. I don't want to divulge too much because I don't want to ruin it for you so let's see what I can tell you. You know I have mentioned before that there are authors that master the craft of dual time writing and some that do not. Well, Jaime Jo Wright definitely does. She transports you to two different timelines and does it with complete ease.
In this story you are transported back to the 1930's in a small town in which a horrible murder has occurred and the only living survivor is Ava Coons. A young girl whom everyone blames for this tragic occurrence but no one can truly prove. We also get transported to present time in a youth camp with Wren Blythe and her very interesting family.
There is SO much to this story. I mean the twists and turns that I did not expect at all were mesmerizing. There was also a tender moment which I had to reach for the tissues. There is tons of mystery that captures you from the very beginning and has so staying up way too late to see what happens (with the light on of course!) There is romance and it is quite delightful! The best part of this story is the thread of faith that Mrs. Wright puts into this story. While all that is happening there is a story of forgiveness and redemption that is flawless and builds up in this story and I absolutely loved it.
If you enjoy the kind of suspense that keeps you at the edge of your seat then this is definitely the book for you it is so good and you'll need to block some time off because you won't want to put it down.

My Thoughts
If you have never read a Jaime Jo Wright book I honestly don't know what you are waiting for!! One book is all it took and I was hooked!! I mean if you like suspense/mystery novels with romance woven in and a dual timeline then you will totally love her books! I was SO excited to be part of her Influencer Team.. I may have had a total fangirl moment and squealed when I received the welcome email and the book! Here's the thing with her books you need to set some uninterrupted time aside because you are going to want to read it in one sitting oh and most of them you don't want to read in the dark, this one is one of them!
In this story we have two different timelines that intertwine beautifully. We meet Adria from the past timeline and Kailey from the present. Both women have gone through some traumatic experiences and are surrounded by secrets that lead to this manor house that is secluded and tucked away in the cliffs overlooking Lake Michigan. These two women, though centuries apart, are trying to solve the secrets surrounding the house and its inhabitants. I am not going to ruin the story or give anything away but let's just say that there is plenty of suspense, mystery and even a ghost?!
Oh, and let us not forget the leading men in this story!! The romance was totally there in a slow burn type that just keeps you reading and wanting to know more and how it will develop. The chemistry on the characters was done just right and the kisses!! SWOONY for sure!! The rest of the supporting characters were perfection especially Kailey's older brother who happens to be autistic. I thought that was a great addition to the story and written so well that he takes a place in your heart.
Overall I absolutely enjoyed the story and had me engaged the entire time. Jaime Jo Wright has such a way of weaving two storylines and making everything just click together. Nothing that she adds to the setting, characters or plot is by chance it all goes together to make one amazing story! Seriously go out and grab this book now!!
