Author: Rebekah Millet
Publisher: Bethany House Publishers
Release Date: March 18, 2025

Juggling the responsibilities of running her café, raising her teenage niece, and the emotional baggage from her breakup, Kate finds her world once again turned upside down when her first-ever crush, Micah Guidry, returns to town as the hunky local librarian.

As Kate struggles to implement her plans to expand her café amid the New Orleans Mardi Gras madness and the meddling of her conniving ex-fiancé, Micah becomes the unwitting hero of her misadventures, stirring up feelings she thought she'd long buried. My Thoughts

Oh my word what a great and fun story this was! I could feel Rebekah radiate in her writing in this book. I have been awaiting Kate's story ever since reading about her in the the first book Julia Monroe Begins Again and I am so glad I got to know her in this book because her story was so good. This story has a such an easy feel to it. I giggled out loud multiple times at the way Kate talks and the crazy antics that somehow happen to her. The lighthearted moments definitely balanced the deeper issues of the storyline.

I felt for Kate throughout the story. She has a lot of things in her life that she is dealing with. She is still grieving her sister and although is not a grief that has overtaken her she doesn't want the memory of her to be faint so she holds on to all the dreams they made with each other despite never truly being Kate's dreams for her life. She likes to take control of every little detail of her life which at times make her a bit unbearable to deal with but it was nice to see how she grows throughout the story. I am so glad that she has Julia to talk her through her toughest moments and guide her in the way God would want her go and always rely on Him. Micah does the same and I loved how adorable he is with her niece and with her and gives her the space she needs to deal and come to terms with certain things in her life.

There were some swoony moments with Micah and Kate but the journey of this story I felt was Kate's and not the romance, which don't get me wrong, it was present and written to perfection but I really enjoyed the journey I embarked and finished with Kate. So kudos to Rebekah Millet for writing such a great story. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Oh if you are reading this book on an empty stomach don't... the yearning for beignets will be strong while reading this book!

Publisher: Independent
Release Date: February 26, 2025

She lost her family to tragedy. He lost his when he ran away. What will second chances cost them?

Miriam Locklin thought she could keep her family together, just as her deceased parents would have wished. But when she is banished to a small Midwestern town to live with an uncle she’s never met, she realizes the fight for her family may be harder than she ever imagined. And she has no one in the little town of Osceola to fight for her.

Determined to clear his name, Jase Hoffman returns to his hometown of Osceola to prove he’s not the villain everyone believes him to be. Facing the people he left behind is no easy task. When he unexpectedly meets Miriam—for the second time—he can’t help but be drawn to her. But his broken relationships prove he’s no good at family.

As their feelings for each other grow stronger, one man could destroy everything Jase and Miriam hold dear. Yet love is only true if it’s been tested…and the hardest test is yet to come.

A Time of Proving can be read as a standalone or as a continuation of the Home to Osceola series. Faith and danger mix on the Nebraska prairie, and characters discover the value of family ties and love. Fans of Lauraine Snelling and Tracie Peterson are sure to enjoy.

My Thoughts

This was my first book by Alena Mentink and I really enjoyed it. I didn't know what to expect being that this is the second book in the series and I thought I would be lost by not reading the first one but that was not the case. I was able to read this as a stand alone.

I really enjoyed the storyline. We meet Miriam whose parents have died and all she has left is her siblings. They are split up to live with different relatives which is hard for her to come to terms with. She is sent to live with an uncle in Osceola. Oh did I mention she is also getting away from an unwanted suitor. Yes, and while doing so she meets wonderful Jase who also has a past of his own.

I loved Jase. He was such a swoony male character. He comes back home in hopes of reconciling with his parents and the whole town. I won't divulge what happens in his past but I am so very glad of the outcome of it throughout the story. I also enjoyed the romance aspect between him and Miriam. Definitely some swoon worthy, deep sigh moments happening here.

Overall I really enjoyed the storyline. The deep family storyline, the theme of forgiveness and second chances was very well written and done. There was a great faith thread which tied the storyline perfectly together. The romance was sweet and perfect for a teen or young adult as well as adult readers.I for one have added her to my TBR list of of authors and I am looking forward to reading more of her stories especially from this series!

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

My Thoughts

If you are looking for a new middle grade/ YA book for your fantasy loving kid then this would be a great option. I found the characters to be relatable especially Riley. Following his journey and growth throughout the story was neat to experience. For me the best part of a fantasy book is seeing out how an author will create a world that is non existent with settings that have to captivate you and enthrall you to keep those pages turning and to imagine yourself in the setting. I mean that is a big challenge for new authors to do especially when you have CS Lewis, Tolkien and Rowling as the masters of fantasy but I must say that Ms. Dixon did a great job. She made a unique race that made you look at vampires in a different light and I truly could picture the setting in my mind with her descriptions.

Overall I enjoyed this story and  if you are looking for a new fantasy book that has suspense, adventure and friendships this is a great one to add to your lists.
