Parents or grandparents will enjoy reading this sweet bedtime rhyme, filled with dreams and aspirations for their little ones. With amazing, colorful illustrations, this read-to-me story richly shows the love of a faith-filled family with creative, interesting scenes that kids will love to see over and over--and those who read it to them will experience the blessing of God's love, which is meant to be shown and shared with families

My Thoughts

We love reviewing children's books in our house and I say we because as soon as they come in my younger kiddos (9, 10) immediately grab them and want to read them or want me to read it to them.  If you are still in the stage of reading before bed this would be the perfect addition to your house. The illustrations are so cute and the size is perfect for little hands to hold and tote around the house. In this bedtime story the mama and daddy red pandas are letting the kids know what their dreams are for them as they grow up. Listen, as a mom of teenagers as well I was emotional over this one. As parents we definitely want our kids to grow up and accomplish their dreams and especially as Christian parents we want them to not only accomplish those dreams but do them as they also grow in God.

We really enjoyed this book and it would be perfect for preschool aged kiddos. This would also make a great gift for a new mom or baby shower gift.

To Catch a Coronet by Grace Hitchcock ~ Book Review

June 20, 2024

About the Book

Book: To Catch a Coronet
Author: Grace Hitchcock
Genre: Christian Regency Romance
Series: Novel of Best Laid Plans, Book 1
Publisher: Kregel
Release Date: May 2024

Sometimes the only way to outsmart a scandal is to find a crown big enough to silence it

Muriel Beau, country baker turned heiress, can't stop instigating outrage. She discards two arranged engagements, then further antagonizes in Kent society by publicly proposing to a baron at a ball. His rejection leaves her with no choice but to flee to the city and to secure a coronet so splendid that her peers will forget her debacles. The glitter of the London courts convinces Muriel that it's possible to find the future she dreams of, until she finds herself entangled in yet another escapade--one that may cost her more than her crumbling reputation.

After years of serving as a privateer under an assumed name, Captain Erik Draycott, heir to Draycott Castle and soon to assume his uncle's title of Earl, returns to his London home to find it in disrepair thanks to his longtime nemesis. A staunch bachelor intent on returning to his ship, the captain now finds himself in dire need of a wife. But while his pauper status causes the potential London brides to turn their noses up at him, the captain is shocked when his mentor encourages him to retire and take a wife. But while his alleged pauper status causes the potential London brides to turn their noses up at him, the ladies of Kent have no such qualms and are eager to fill his coffers with their fathers' wealth. When he encounters the unconventional Muriel Beau and she becomes embroiled in his risky undertaking, Erik is torn between staying put to protect this enchanting country lady and heeding the call of the high seas.

My Thoughts

I have enjoyed Ms. Hitchcock's books set in the Guilded Age and I have really enjoyed them but I must say I believe she knocked it out of the park with this Regency setting and I absolutely loved it!!

The characters are endearing and lovable. I absolutely loved Muriel. She is a completely normal person  who has been thrown into wealth by her mother's marriage into nobility. She made me laugh with her antics and was just delightful. She has the best of intentions but sometime doesn't know how to quite execute them. After botching up a proposal she is sent to find a proper match. Here is where she meet Erik who is completely swoon worthy and sees Muriel like no one else can. They definitely have great chemistry!

I absolutely loved Muriels friends Vivienne and Tess and cannot wait to read about them throughout the rest of the series. Overall I really enjoyed this story. It has romance, mystery and a twist that caught me a bit off guard! If you are looking for a new Regency story to read I definitely recommend this.

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Elusive Truth of Lily Temple by Joanna Davidson Politano ~ Book Review

June 19, 2024

About the Book

Book: The Elusive Truth of Lily Temple
Author: Joanna Davidson Politano
Genre: Christian Historical Fiction
Publisher: Revell
Release Date: April 2024

Peter Driscoll, an underground investigator to the wealthy, has never met anyone like Lily Temple. The beautiful silent-film actress spins fairy tales and plays frivolous roles in front of the cine-camera, but beneath the costumes and stage makeup is a woman with a quick wit--and a murky past.

Peter has been tasked with locating the legendary Briarwood Teardrop, an exquisite sapphire, which Lily wears beneath her gown. In order to stay close to her and hopefully unravel the mystery of her story--and the sapphire--Peter employs Lily's help on a case, which leads to a useful partnership. But as they are investigating together, Peter is also investigating Lily. The closer he gets to the truth, the more danger they face. And the closer he gets to Lily, the clearer it is that he needs her even more than she needs him.

My Thoughts

I know that once I pick up a book by Joanna Davidson Politano I am going to lose sleep and be completely lost in the story and this one was no exception. If you've never read any of her books then you are definitely missing out. She writes with such depth and truth that it isn't hard to fall in love with her writing.

This book has it all!! All the genres you love in one book, I mean its part fairy tale, romance, adventure, illusions, history and God's truth! At times the book is lyrical and takes you on this journey that you don't ever want to leave. I didn't know what to expect from Lily Temple but you could tell that she was looking for something more out of life. She had seen glimpses of it but never truly acquired it. I loved Peter Driscoll and what he brought to the story and to Lily's life. The way that they worked through some of the cases was compelling to experience.

I know this review will probably not give you what you may be looking for. There aren't  any spoilers or too many details because I would honestly ruin the story. But I will tell you this, the story is beautifully written. It has twists that I didn't expect or see coming. I can't express enough how talented Politano is. The way that she points you to God is impeccably done. I'll leave you with one of my favorite lines of the book (and there are many...)

"Every truth. Every make-believe tale. It is part of our natures, our every story, and he wishes it this way. Because he waits for us in the garden. Longs for us to see the petals, to understand...and to draw near. He has eternity written on our hearts, and in every story we tell."

I obviously loved this book and one that will stay with me for a while. Of course I one-thousand percent recommend it if you enjoy stories that are deep and take you on a journey then this author is the one for you and this book will be perfect you! I hope you love it as much as I do!!

I received a copy of this for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Princess and the Kiss by Jennie Bishop ~ Book Review

June 16, 2024

This book ya’ll!! We loved it!! As a Christian mama I definitely loved the message as it is something we talk about with our daughter despite her being only 8. We pray that she continues to walk in this truth God has bestowed upon us.
There are not many books out there that teach the importance of purity in today’s society but in a way that is understandable to a younger girl. Color me surprised when I find out this book has been out for 25 years!! What?! I had never heard of it but it should be in everyone’s shelf!

 About the Book

The enchanting story of The Princess & the Kiss begins when a loving king and queen present their newborn daughter with a gift from God—her first kiss—to keep or give away. As the young girl grows to maturity, she wisely waits for a man who is worthy of her precious gift. Looking past suitors who would try to dazzle her with riches or clever feats with little substance, she looks for the depth of a man’s heart. Where is her prince and how will she ever find him? The surprising answer in this marvelous parable will touch the heart of parent and child alike.

The Princess and the Kiss beautifully portrays the ageless message that “love ... comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:5 NIV)..

Unforgiven by Shelley Shepard Gray ~ Book Review

June 14, 2024

About the Book

Book: Unforgiven
Author: Shelley Shepard Gray
Genre: Amish Suspense Fiction
Publisher: Revell
Release Date: May 2024

Ex-con Seth Zimmerman has spent the last three years making amends by helping the vulnerable in his former Amish community. Lately, this mission includes calling on Tabitha Yoder, whose divorce from her abusive husband has isolated her from the community. Even though she never comes out of her house to talk to him, Seth knows she watches him from the window while he chops wood, clears her driveway, and drops off food.   An uneasy friendship is just starting to take hold between them when small gifts begin to appear at Tabitha's home--gifts that can only be from her ex-husband. Seth might be Tabitha's only hope at maintaining her hard-won freedom from the man whose violent outbursts had almost cost her life. But coming to her rescue might mean he ends up behind bars once again.

My Thoughts

This was a different type of "Amish" story. I say Amish because that is typically the genre that this author writes but in this one the main characters are no longer Amish but not because they have been shunned but rather by circumstances that have happened in their lives.

We meet Tabitha who has been divorced and the circumstances in which this happens are atrocious. She has been in an extremely abusive marriage but despite all that hurt the Amish community sees divorce almost as a sin so she is basically pulled out of the community. Seth is our other main character and he has served in prison for protecting a friend from assault. Because of this he also is removed from the community. Seth is a protector and has liked Tabitha since he was younger. He makes sure that she is taken care of and watches over her.

I really enjoyed seeing the progress between these two characters. Tabitha really came out of her shell and made sure she stood up for herself. I also liked that the romance between them didn't move very fast as she was dealing with some really heavy stuff so I appreciated the author being realistic about this and moving at a slower pace.

I must admit that the suspense part of the story could have been a bit more extreme for me but it suited the story. Overall I thought it was a good story and if you are looking for a new Amish suspense story then you should try this one. Just beware that it does have some triggers such as mentions of abusive marriage and sexual assaults.

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Headmistress by Kristie Self ~ Book Review

June 8, 2024

About the Book

Book:
The Headmistress
Author: Kristie Self
Genre: Historical Romance
Series: Ladies of Roderick Glen
Publisher: Independent
Release Date: April 2024

Can two solitary hearts discover that their best chance for happiness lies in working together?

The Honorable Sienna Clarke has spent most of her life defying the expectations placed upon women in society. A scientific scholar at heart, she uses the inheritance she receives from her late father to open a special school for young ladies—one where they will be allowed to study any subject they wish, even those traditionally reserved for men.

Jasper Walker left Roderick Glen in disgrace more than two years ago and hasn’t set foot in the village since. Despite his attempts to change his life for the better, he finds himself once more searching for a way to repair a costly mistake. When his latest error results in deadly circumstances, Jasper reluctantly returns to Roderick Glen, hoping to escape from those who wish him harm. Seeking a way to support himself, he takes a job as caretaker for the school for young ladies that has recently opened in the village.

Sienna isn’t certain what to think of the new caretaker. He is handsome and charming, but also quite mysterious. She can’t shake the feeling he has secrets he’d rather keep buried, but despite her misgivings, she can’t deny her growing attraction to him.

Jasper has no desire to fall in love with anyone, certainly not a headstrong, opinionated headmistress far above his station, but when dangerous threats are made against Sienna and her school, he vows to do whatever he must to protect her and find the person responsible. Can love break through the barrier that surrounds his heart and show him what it means to truly put another person’s needs above his own?

My Thoughts

I love, love returning to the town of Roderick Glen, England and its people. Author Kristie Self has done a great job with this series so far and captivating me and wanting more each time the book comes to an end. So, needless to say I need more from this series!

As always even thought theres a main storyline, this one being about Sienna and Jasper, there are also all these side storylines that are happening at the same time so definitely keeps you engaged. I really enjoyed how Sienna's story blossomed in this book and loved to see the return of Jasper and how he changed throughout the story. Of course it was great to "see" Cece, Victoria and Merry. Cece's storyline continues from the previous books and now we see her in medical school. I would really like more on her story and the good doctor!! Vickie as always was up to her antics although they have toned down a bit as she has matured but boy I am always wondering who will end up to be her love interest because currently its not who I was rooting for!!! Gah!! Dear Merry, as she continues her writing career we see her hopefully finally have lead to someone who will actually publish her works.

Seriously there is so much to unpack and delve into when you read these stories and I highly encourage you to read them from the very beginning to not only get the whole picture but also fall in love with these characters and not be confused if you jump in the middle of it.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I can't wait for the next book. I was a bit disappointed at the lighter spiritual content just because her first few books were so rich in it but despite that I really enjoyed these. If you are looking for a new historical fiction series to get hooked into make sure you check this one out!

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

The Crown Conspiracy by Connie Mann ~ Book Review

June 6, 2024

About the Book

Book: The Crown Conspiracy
Author: Connie Mann
Genre: Suspense
Series: Speranza Team
Publisher: Tyndale
Release Date: June 4, 2024

She’s a master at spotting a forgery . . . and knowing how to create one. But can she solve a decades-old mystery?

Since the tragic deaths of Princess Johanna of Neuhansberg and her two children forty years ago, the whereabouts of these portraits have been unknown . . . and the timing of their reappearance—just days before a new prince’s coronation—reignites questions surrounding the infamous accident. Then Sophie’s best friend vanishes, and a rumor about hidden treasure connected to the paintings surfaces, seemingly confirmed by a cryptic message on the back of the first canvas. Convinced that finding the other two portraits will lead to her friend, Sophie begins a twisty investigation that pits her against other ruthless treasure hunters, a handsome who seems to dog her trail at every turn, and a mysterious group that offers help, wearing an emblem identical to one on the painting. From Germany’s grand castles and soaring cathedrals through the Alps to the canals of Venice, Sophie must choose her allies carefully if she hopes to find the portraits, rescue her best friend—and perhaps save a throne—before time runs out.A clean, contemporary adventure with a dash of romance.

My Thoughts

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It is definitely a high paced book and immediately captures you in the beginning pages and sets you off in a course of adventure, action and high stakes journey that keeps you engaged in the story. However, the beginning of the story while it introduces you to what some key elements in the story are doesn't evolve right away which was a bit frustrating because I wanted to return to that storyline a bit more.

That being said the characters are good. It is definitely centered around women and their ability to do whatever it takes. Sophie and Lise are great friends and they help each other out at all costs. They are supportive of each other and both trying to do the right thing for other people. There is a male character in the story which is intended to provide some light romance in the story. There are no deep elements of faith except for the one line " I believe in God even when He is silent" It was the basis for the storyline.

Overall I thought the story was well written and enjoyable. If you enjoy shows like White Collar, Robin Hood type movies/books or a "Girl Power" type books then you will enjoy this story.

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Love on a Whim by Suzanne Woods Fisher ~ Book Review

June 1, 2024

As the wedding day arrives, Lincoln vanishes--and an unwelcome guest makes a surprise appearance.

My Thoughts

I loved all the ice cream quotes sprinkled at the beginning of each chapter! Definitely made you crave for your own bowl full of your favorite! Despite this being part of a series I did not have any problems following along so I definitely think that this can be a stand alone. This was a different type of trope for a Christian Fiction book. I mean in this one we meet Brynn who marries a guy she meets while in a meeting in Vegas and then in a moment of realization and panic she leaves him without a word.

Right away I knew who the mystery man was which kind of ruined it for me because I like a good mystery but it didn't take away from enjoying the story. Through all that happens Brynn does find who she truly is and what she wants to do with her life. Her best friend Dawn tries to talk he out of this new path but it is to no avail. Honestly I found Dawn to be aggravating and she drove me a bit crazy with her antics. Now, this may be the part where reading the previous book may have been helpful just to know a little more background on the characters that come in throughout this story.

There are other storylines happening while we learn more about Brynn and I absolutely loved reading more about them. The author does a great job at weaving faith and the theme of forgiveness throughout the story. Although I do enjoy her Amish stories I think she does a great job with these contemporary novels. If you are looking for a new series to start, grab some ice cream and grab this one!

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only honest opinion.

My Thoughts

This was a great story filled with very relatable characters. The author does a great job at showing their real struggles and feelings. She also does a great job at showing us who truly is control and how God is always there for us to provide us with the strength we need when we need it. You really will delve into this book and not want to let go. The topics are deep and truly cause you to think. The way she shows how one decision can cause a ripple effect on not only our life but the lives of others. Definitely makes you stop and think about your own life and the decisions we make that could affect others.

The story has some twists and turns and keeps you guessing but the themes of forgiveness are dominant in the story. Overall I thought this was a good story and if you enjoy stories with depth then you will definitely enjoy this one.

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
